Holden was born in Portsmouth in Hampshire. She spent a good portion of her childhood living in Bishop's Waltham. When she was nine, she joined the Bishop's Waltham Little Theatre Company. Holden also has TV credits that include three series that she co-starred with Caroline Quentin and Chris Langham on the comedy Kiss Me Kate, three episodes of ITV's The Grimleys and Celeb With Harry Enfield on BBC, and a Boxing Day special Agatha Christie's Marple Episode "4.50 from Paddington" with Geraldine McEwan and John Hannah. Holden co-starred with Bill Nighy and Tom Courtenay in Ready When You Are, Mr. McGill, a comedy drama written by Jack Rosenthal. Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams are judges on Britain's Got Talent. She was the judge on Britain's Got Talent from 2006 until 2006.
